Quzhou City which has a sub-tropical monsoon climate enjoys abundant rainfalls, ample sunshine, warm and mild climate, and the city is not subject to long frost season. With four distinct seasons, the city is typical of a long period of winter and summer but a short period of spring and autumn. The summer monsoon is usually weakened by the winter monsoon in all year round. The frequent wind direction towards urban areas and Changshan county is easterly winds to the northeast, while in the counties like Longyou and Jiangshan northeastly winds come most, and in Kaihua county usually the north wind occurs. Due to its landscape diversity, at the turn of spring and summer, complex terrain conditions contribute to the stranded stationary front, resulting in the increase of precipitation. At the height of summer, it is not easy for typhoons deep into this area, so it will be less affected, and there will be more static hot weather.

Spring which comes from March 14th -18th, and ends on May 19th -20th lasts about 66 to 72 days. During this time, there will be frequent changes between cold and warm air, therefore, the temperature rise was wavy and rainfalls will noticeably increase. Moreover, it will cause transient weather changes between sunny and rainy in a day. If affected by strong cold air, it will result in hails and strong winds.

Summer which usually dates from May 20th -29th lasts 113 to 133 days. The period from the beginning of summer till early July, called plum rain season, tends to have the highest accumulation of rainfalls in a year. During this time, there usually comes heavy rain with stormy weather, thus easily causing floods or other natural disasters. After the plum rain season, it is midsummer everywhere, hence there will mainly be sunny hot weather and drought sometimes can occur. Due to less rainfall but usually partly happens in the afternoon, this kind of thunderstorm is  usually accompanied by strong wind, thus causing wind disasters. Typhoons tend to be the most frequent during midsummer, but will have little effect here since it seldom come into inland areas. Besides, rains brought by typhoons can often alleviate the drought situation, but in some areas there may cause floods or other disasters.

Autumn, from September 19th-30th to November 18th-29th, has a period of 60 to 61 days. Early autumn, the stalemate of cold and warm air can contribute to cool rainy weather. However, overall, it is sunny dry weather with less rain, so there form droughts summer followed by autumn. In late autumn, the fine weather with pleasant temperature is commonly known as ‘the Spring in October’.

Winter - from November 19 to 30 enters the winter, the following year on March 13 to the 17th ends, takes 105 to 119 days. The cold air movement tends to be the most frequent during winter time. Cold and dry weather is often accompanied by frost, snow, freezing etc. In case of cold wave, it will easily cause heavy snow, freezing weather and other disasters.
